How to Use HoverBoard Recording — Transcribe and Summarize Meetings Locally

On this page

HoverBoard Recording helps you keep the useful parts of a meeting without switching to another app. Start a recording from Notes, then review a searchable local transcript and an on-device summary with key points, decisions, and action items.

Watch Recording in action

This walkthrough shows the recording controls, timestamped transcript, speaker labels, and follow-up summary:

Start a recording

Open Notes from the menu bar or its global shortcut, then start Recording from the recording controls. The compact control stays available while you continue the meeting, with timestamps marking useful moments as the conversation progresses.

Recording is designed to stay out of the way: you can keep presenting, teaching, or discussing while HoverBoard captures the session locally.

Review the transcript

When the recording is finished, HoverBoard processes it into a searchable transcript. Timestamps help you jump back to the relevant moment, while speaker labels make longer discussions easier to scan and review.

Transcription currently works offline for English. Processing time depends on the recording length and the capabilities of your Mac.

Create a private summary

Use the local summary workflow to turn the transcript into useful follow-up material:

  • Key points from the discussion.
  • Decisions that were made.
  • Action items to follow up after the meeting.

The summary is created on your Mac. It is intended as a starting point for review, so check names, numbers, and decisions before sharing it with your team.

Privacy and permissions

Recordings, transcripts, and summaries stay on your Mac. HoverBoard does not upload your meeting audio or screen contents to a codeonholiday backend.

macOS may ask for permission to access audio or other system features needed by the recording workflow. Grant only the permissions you are comfortable using, and follow your meeting participants’ consent and recording policies.

Recording and Pro

Recording, transcription, and summaries are part of HoverBoard’s Pro workflow. Spotlight and Break Timer remain free forever; the other Pro tools include a 60-second preview so you can test the workflow before upgrading.

For the full feature breakdown, see the HoverBoard page, or download the app and try the recording workflow from Notes.
