How to Use HoverBoard Screen Record — Capture Video with Mic and System Audio

On this page

Screen Record captures video of your display while you present, demo, or teach. Pick a capture mode, toggle mic and system audio on the floating pill, keep using other HoverBoard tools until you tap Finish, then trim and export from the editor.

This is screen capture to MP4 — separate from Notes meeting recording, which transcribes conversations.

Choose a capture mode

The default shortcut is ⌃⌥V. You can also start from the menu bar.

A mode chooser opens:

  • Full Screen — record the display under your pointer.
  • Selection — drag a region (Space/Enter for the full display in the picker).
  • Window — pick one window from a list.

Press Esc to cancel the chooser.

While recording

A floating pill shows:

  • A timer and red recording indicator.
  • Mic and system audio toggles — turn either source on or off during the capture.
  • Finish (stop icon) — the only way to end the recording.

Important: Screen Record does not block other HoverBoard tools. You can open Draw, Freeze, or Screenshot while the pill is visible. Esc and other shortcuts do not stop the recording — use Finish on the pill.

HoverBoard needs Screen Recording permission. Mic capture also needs Microphone access when the mic toggle is on.

Edit before you save

After Finish, the Edit Recording window opens:

  • Play / scrub the preview.
  • Keep / Split / Delete on the timeline — blue ranges are exported; delete the parts you do not want.
  • Speed — up to 10× for the whole clip.
  • Mic / System audio — include or exclude each track in the export.
  • Crop — frame the video before saving.

Then Save (default folder: ~/Movies/HoverBoard Recordings/), Save As…, or Discard.

Screen Record is free forever

Screen Record does not start the 60-second Pro preview and does not require a license. Capture modes, mic/system audio, the record pill, and the post-record editor are included in the free download.

You cannot run Screen Record and a Notes meeting recording at the same time — finish one before starting the other.

Troubleshooting

If ⌃⌥V does nothing, grant Accessibility to HoverBoard. If video is black or capture fails, allow Screen Recording for HoverBoard. If mic is missing, check the mic toggle on the pill and Microphone permission in System Settings.

If Split or Delete on the timeline seems to do nothing, remember that blue ranges are what you keep — Split divides a range; Delete removes the selected blue range. Watch Out duration shrink before you Save.
